POINTS OF INTEREST (POIs)
POIs can be listed on a map in a few different ways. The name of the POI can be directly on the map with text, or they can be referenced with spotters and an index (see examples). Typically...it is easier to locate a specific POI that is listed in an index. The index will be alphabetized with a location grid reference (i.e. “B-2”). So, for example, if somebody is looking specifically for Medieval Times, they can go to the index, find it alphabetically listed, see that it is in location grid B-2 and go right to the location. The issue here, is that whenever a POI is added or deleted, the entire index and map spotters need to be renumbered. POIs shown on a map with text only would be for less important POIs. Things that you want people to be aware of, but not call attention to.
